The Truth About Demand Media Studios

The Truth

Over the last few months, Demand Media and its writers have been conversing heavily...and providing me with plenty of cannon fodder. I'm going to sum the situation up and save you the long version.

Writers: I want the TRUTH!

Demand: You can't HANDLE the truth!

And that's the long and short of it. For the longest time, Demand assured us that scores don't matter much. Then, First Look rears its ugly head and all of a sudden, grammar scores are what make or break us.

Of course, in between the incessant lies and evasive language, Webpronews and Business Insider both helped add fuel to the fire, revealing who Demand's corporate lackeys are. Despite the pathetic defense posed by one writer in particular, anyone with half a brain can see what this "company" has done.

DSS is Where the Truth Is

Recently, rumors started about an eHow Select site, where certain writers could obtain a position based on Demand's whim. Whether this is true or not is a matter of speculation. Demand recently dropped a post claiming that eHow Select is a myth, but a quick look at the Demand Studios Sucks forum says otherwise.

At least one anonymous writer not only claims to have been accepted, but also explained that writers can ultimately nominate each other for a crack at this gold mine. One thing is for sure, Demand will never be honest with us, but DSS is another story.

Demand fears their archenemy, not because of their everyday criticism, but because they're not afraid to post things not meant for the public eye. A while back, Demand instituted an editor evaluation tool so that writers can compliment or slam editors based on their performance. While writers welcomed this new balance of power, editors were less than happy. Their forums were rife with nasty threads, disparaging writers. In a nutshell, the messages were along the lines of "what right do writers have to judge us? We're superior human beings!" DSS posted the full conversation and soon, the general forums at DMS were ablaze. This is just one of many examples of how DSS strikes fear into the hearts of Demand Studios.

Basically, don't rely on Demand for honesty. Even if you don't like Demand Studios Sucks, Demand Media isn't any nicer. Remember, the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

Edit: It seems that the eHow Select was in fact a hoax that tricked both DSS posters and DMS writers alike. Oh well, mistakes happen. Demand still does suck, though. That information is still valid.

Game Over

Demand can use all the evasive language they want. They can dismiss writers who are too vocal in their criticisms, they can change their tune, but they will never escape the power of the Internet. Every move the company makes is being scrutinized, and with each negative review, shareholders will lose more and more of their dwindling faith. My advice to writers who didn't make the cut is GET OUT. Don't hang around the forums hoping for good news, because hope at Demand dried out long before its assignment pool did.

Totally agree. Believe it or not, I still have my permissions there. I've written and claimed expertise on a few articles (business and English), and had no problems. But you're not the first person to complain that because a CE's mother's cousin's twice removed former sister-in-law went to school for engineering, that somehow the CE him/herself is more qualified than an actual expert for fact checking.

I freakin' hate them. When I wrote a very good content how to article on a niche topic that I have personal experience and success with, plus cited other sources, I had one of these editors telling me my information wasn't accurate and since her husband was an artist what I'm sharing with people wasn't that easy. WTF I was so frustrated I didn't post for six months. Then I got the "generic your content is not needed anymore" letter. It just proved to me what I knew all along they dont want good content they want people to turn out mediocre content at stealth speed like a puppy mill for writers.

Lucky you. I didn't even make it into First Fail. My scores were fine up until the last few weeks, when editors seemed to get hardcore with their "standards" and gave me 3s after correcting two or three words. It's nothing more than a power trip for them.

I'm a Demand Studios hater now, too. I busted my butt working for nearly three years there, and recently lost my First Look privileges. It happened because I needed the money and wrote articles out of my area of expertise. Now just a modicum below the threshold, I can't get a decent article for the life of me. And there's no way to bring my score up unless I can get some decent articles. This company lies, they're vindictive and represent all that evil out on the Internet

I'm not saying that DSS is perfect, but it's more honest than DMS ever was. FYI, plugging a site that sells a book about "succeeding" with Demand isn't exactly full of useful information anymore (if it ever was). It's impossible to "maximize earnings" as the site says. It's funny that you call me a moron, when you're willing to shell out cash for information that you can easily find for free by posting in the forums.

I hate Demand Media, but Demand Studios Sucks is a huge collection of liars and losers. When you visit a website and it makes you think it was written by a bunch of pimpled, sexually frustrated, obese 15 year olds who think fart jokes are the only thing is hysterical, you know that while there might be a nugget of truth every once in a while, the website as a whole is crap. Pure, unadulterated crap. Only a complete f*cking retard would think otherwise.

Demand Studios Secrets - THAT is where a mature, well-adjusted adult goes for the 411 on Demand Media.

What are the major, competing content farms that can employ the former Demand Media writers?

Everyone's better off picking up roadkill for a living, as far as I'm concerned. I just love how those in the forums say how their "grammer" got them into first look. Goes to show what kind of a farce Demand really is.

I was making some good money over at Demand for the last few months and then came the Livestrong issue and it has been a mess from there. I wrote a Hub about it and not putting all your eggs in one basket.

I don't like the way they make everything mysterious and favor the editors. I also think that some of the requirements to write in certain categories are ridiculous. They are pretentious with their requirements and are so stuck into cookie cutter formats that it is ridiculous.

There is just too much to complain about in one comment section.

Everyone is better off selling their writing elsewhere.
