Thursday's "Friday" Interview

We all know Rebecca Black, the young celebrity whose infamous song turned her into a YouTube sensation. Well, after all her success, Black will be doing an interview on November 9th, 2011. She will be answering user-submitted questions on her channel about anything her fans -- or detractors -- might throw at her.

My Moment

I remember the moment when I first saw Friday. I was at Denny's, eating greasy food that totally negated my boxing workout for the day. My friend pulled out her phone and showed me the song, saying "this is the worst song you'll ever hear." After watching it, I agreed.

Looking back, though, did I really believe it was that bad, or was I simply agreeing because I was coached into it? In light of recent events, I watched the song again, throwing my prejudices out the window. Sure enough, it didn't seem so terrible the second time around. Yes, I still don't think it's a great song. The lyrics are absurd, especially the academic lecture about the order of weekdays. However, Rebecca Black is just a teenager with no music experience. The people who lambasted her in the past seemed to either have unreasonably high expectations, or simply wanted to affirm their own good taste by saying the song sucked.

Don't Feed the Trolls

Even though I'm not crazy about the song, I refrained from making snarky comments on the video...at least not at her anyway. I did, however, slam at least a dozen trolls with nasty comebacks. Why? Well, first off, trolls are dirt bags. These people talk tough behind the safety of a computer screen and seem to get off on hurting people for no good reason. Seriously, do something with your life, find a hobby.

Rebecca Black is in her teens. Upon Friday's release, trolls were saying all kinds of things, calling her a "slut," "ugly," or telling her to kill herself. She's not a slut, she's not ugly (I mean this in the most non-creepy way) and there's definitely no reason to wish her harm.

Unfortunately, trolls don't have brains. They think with their Cheetos-covered fingers, typing derogatory comments with at least six porn websites minimized in the background.

I don't really take much offense to trolls who hate on actual celebrities, like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga or Michael Jackson, to name a few. These people are/were professionals, and criticism is part of the job. However, Rebecca Black simply fell into fame and fortune when her original intent was to just make a YouTube video. She shouldn't have to deal with the personal attacks that regular celebrities constantly get.

The Last Laugh

Face it, trolls. After all your nasty remarks, death threats and late-night hating marathons, Rebecca Black reached a level of success greater than your best World of Warcraft achievements. She's rubbed shoulders with people like Katy Perry. What do you people have to show for all those hours of trolling? I'll tell you what you have: dirty clothes, 15 extra pounds and a failed online relationship.

Rebecca Black is probably now immune to trolls. All she has to do is look at her bank statement or call one of her celebrity friends to quote the latest "go kill yourself" from "buttlover69" on YouTube. This girl has given each and every one of you haters one big, fat middle finger. A middle finger which I hope all of you trolls choke on. As your species would say, "go kill yourselves."
